Christian Sleep Meditation
Breathe in and breathe out. If you’re feeling tired and rest is out of reach, this Christian sleep meditation guide will help you reset and find rest. In addition to my free Christain sleep meditation, we’ll look at the impact of emotions on your ability to sleep and review other energetic healing modalities for improving your sleep quality.
prayer for sleep and anxiety
You may or may not like hearing this. But prayer for sleep and anxiety may not work on its own.
Not that God doesn’t hear your prayers. Or that God doesn’t want you to receive rest. There may just be some work that needs to be done on your part in order to receive the gift of a good night’s sleep. Even with best intentions, reciting a prayer for sleep and anxiety may not work for a number of reasons ranging from good hydration, to what you had for dinner, that new medication you started, or even a vitamin taken at the wrong time. That abbreviated list doesn’t even consider all of the emotional, relational, spiritual, and mental things that impede rest.
God is of course far more powerful than all these things and quite capable of granting your request no matter how your day went!
But here’s the thing. If rest was so easy and came naturally, God would not have needed to set the example of Sabbath from the beginning of time. God included rest in your design so it shouldn’t necessitate lengthy prayers to achieve. It should easily, and sweetly, fall into place.
Once thoughts and emotions move toward more holistic processing and healing your trust in God will grow even greater than it is now and your prayer for sleep and anxiety can bring deeper peace.
When you lie down, you will not be afraid; when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet.
Proverbs 3:24 NIV
Dysfunctional beliefs about sleep
Dysfunctional beliefs about sleep and trapped emotions can also play a big part. This troublesome duo affects how safe, ready, willing, able, and deserving you feel about any number of things. Many people seem able to silence tough emotions during the day. But at night, without as many distractions, these thoughts and emotions gain new energy and demand to be heard. This is where Christian sleep meditation can support what your mind is trying to do but lend to a more peaceful process.

This inner battle doesn’t mean you aren’t praying correctly or that you aren’t “Christian enough” to receive rest. And they don’t come as a surprise to the God who created you.
Instead, recognizing dysfunctional beliefs about sleep and releasing trapped emotions are really helpful tools for healing more than just your ability to rest.
Christian sleep meditation
Christian meditation is a foundation part of a Holistic Faith Lifestyle because it supports every aspect of holistic wellbeing; the mind, body, spirit, emotions, and relationships. Undoubtedly, sleep plays a big part in each of these aspects, too! When we invite God or weave our faith relationship into each and every area of our life, it becomes a Holistic Faith Lifestyle.
This Christian meditation for sleep is no different in its approach. Many times when we are trying to fall asleep our brain switches into overdrive. As it presents the day’s events in rapid-fire or loops a specific conversation or situation over and over, the mind is trying to sort the positive and negative and make sure we don’t repeat the negative again the next day. Nice in theory, but really bad timing!
Christian Meditation YouTube
This 20-minute Christian sleep meditation takes charge of this sorting process before it starts off on the wrong foot and feels too demanding. It allows for a peaceful revisiting of your day, helps you pack it away for the night, and includes time for handing it and all of your anxiety over to God. It ends with peaceful, sleep music so you can drift off unhindered by a busy brain.
OTHER CHRISTIAN SLEEP RESOURCES
In addition to Christian sleep meditation on the nights you’re struggling to rest, a daily Christian meditation practice trains the brain to find rest and relaxation despite distractions. It works especially well when coupled with other Christian sleep resources and spiritual disciplines. Check out the sleep arsenal!
My Top 5 bible verses about sleep and rest
There’s no doubt, reading God’s word before bed can help soothe a busy mind and heart. Absorbing the truth found in these Bible verses about sleep and rest is great in conjunction with Christian sleep meditation. Reading before you meditate can signal your mind that you are ready to change the pace and prepare to rest. Of course, reading and meditating on the meanings of scripture during the day, also sets the course for better sleep. This is because good nights start with good days!
The LORD is my shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake. Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.
Psalm 23:1-6
In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, LORD, make me dwell in safety.
Psalm 4:8
Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” Surely he will save you from the fowler’s snare and from the deadly pestilence. He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart. You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day,
Psalm 91:1-5
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
Matthew 11:28-30
“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
John 16:33

flower essences for sleep
Flower essences are the energetic properties of the flowering portion of a plant, captured in water and preserved as with a homeopathic tincture, using brandy. Flower essences for sleep don’t have any pharmaceutical qualities, so they won’t interact with other medications, make you groggy the next day, or create any other side effects.

Great post Rachel 🙂 I know this is obvious but as you know, its the blue light from our phones & TV that doesn’t tell our brains to go to sleep. But how hard is it to put your phone down 30minutes-1,2hours before Bed. I know it’s impossible. But what’s worked for me is a mix of the two. What I do is, I put my phone down maybe 15-30 minutes earlier than I used to, then I put on a youtube video of a sermon or a postcast and then put on my sleeping mask (to keep the light out). This has been working for me so far! God bless you Rachel, look forward to more of your posts!
Blue light is a huge factor! The glasses are said to help bunches though! Have you tried them or had any success with them?
