5 Scripture Prayers For Emotional Healing

scripture prayers for emotional healingScripture prayers for emotional healing are such a powerful tool for when we don’t know what to pray. This type of prayer lets us echo God’s words in lifted prayer when we’re too overwhelmed to find words that properly express how we feel. Isn’t it beautiful that God has already provided a safe way for us to express ourselves?

Getting emotional pain off our chest is something we may need help with! It is alarming, but perhaps not all that surprising that the CDC estimates stress is the root cause of about 75% of all doctor visits. On the long list of ways that stress presents itself physically, we see headaches, back pain, heart problems, digestive issues, sleep problems, exhaustion, and accidents (1).

Through my lens as a Jesus follower, I wonder how being honest with God about our feelings and everything that stresses us out may lead to the holistic healing of our emotional and physical pain.

When we are distraught, it can be difficult to muster the strength to do much at all. Even small things can feel overwhelming. That’s why zeroing our focus on the next step can be so helpful.

Prayer always seems like the next right step! These scripture prayers for emotional healing fill the gap between our overwhelming feelings and finding the right words to express ourselves in prayer.

5 Scripture Prayers for Emotional Healing

Prayer for inner peace and calm

“God, there is a wild storm raging all around me. I feel the ground is like a mudslide and I’m about to be swept away by the emotions that torment me. I pray now that you stabilize me. That I have eyes fixed on you who is always steadfast. So that no matter the circumstance, no matter the situation, I see you as the one steady and constant thing in my life. You said we’d have trouble in this world and I feel it all around me now, God! But you also said you came to give peace. Let this prayer for inner peace and calm remind me that because you’ve overcome the world, this trouble will not overcome me! The peace you give is a divine and holy, unshakable peace. It is the peace of Jesus Christ, the One in whom all life was created and sanctified and I accept it now in my heart. I trust that all the details of how this will be healed lie in you. At this epic level, there is no worry or doubt, only confidence. I praise you for settling my heart on your Word rather than my circumstance. In your holy name, I pray. Amen.”

Prayer for Emotional Strength

“God, help me to be strong in the face of this battle. I know you promise to provide armor for me and a place of safety. I ask you to use the battle I’m facing to draw me closer to you. Allow me to rest in knowing that though my strength fails, yours is ongoing. You graciously lend this strength to me when I am connected to you in spirit. Keep me close to you so that no weapon formed against me prosper. When I grow tired and weary and stumble and fall, your strength renews me. It makes me soar like an eagle and lets me run without growing weary. Let me understand deep in my soul that I only need to be still because you are fighting for me. I  thank you for lavishly extending all these gifts to me. Amen.”

Prayer for Courage and Confidence

“When fear comes against me and threatens to end my hope, my heart will not be discouraged. Though all the cards are stacked against me, EVEN THEN, I will be confident. The one thing I ask, God, is that I may live in your continual presence. Set my eyes on you, your steadfastness, and your unfathomable ability to create beauty from ashes.

For in my worst days, you surround me and protect my spirit, restoring my soul with inexplicable joy. I will take the joy that you scoop and pour into me and I will use it to praise your name. Do not hide from me, God! You are my helper; the only one I trust with my spirit.

I remain confident of this: I will see your goodness and your glory in my life. Let this moment now be a catalyst in my story. You, the author and finisher of my faith see every plot twist well before I am aware. Guide my path so that no matter what, it leads me closer to you.

I love and adore you, my most precious God.”

Prayer for Forgiveness of Others

“God, please hear this prayer for hurt feelings. Before I can move to forgiveness, I need to be honest with you about how much I hurt. I know you see me and that you know my thoughts before I put them into words. So here I sit, asking you to scan my heart and comfort me. In this quiet space, tenderly remind me of your great compassion for all of your children. Let the picture of your redemptive love rescue me from sadness, anger, and bitterness. Replace these natural feelings with your supernatural peace. When I am in your presence, I know I am forgiven. Help me to pass this gift on to those that hurt me. Let me not hoard your gifts! I know there is freedom and blessing for me in this surrender. You are so good to put this standard of forgiveness in the hearts of your children. Allow me to grow from this situation in a way that is undeniably to your credit. To you be the glory. Amen.”

Prayer for Redemption

“God, I need you. I keep bumping up against the same struggles and every time I come to the same ending. I have not been able to overcome this in my own strength. I have heard it said you will fight for me. That you will protect my heart and give me the strength to do all things through you. God, forgive me for being too proud and stubborn to accept your help in the past. I thank you for using my struggle to highlight your goodness. I invite you to make a lasting change in my heart. I surrender all I am to you. In the place of struggle, I welcome your rest and redemption. Give me wisdom and sensitivity to hear your voice guiding me all of my days. In your holy name, I pray. Amen.”

Psalm 86:5

Psalm 103:10-12

Acts 3:19

Did you notice the majority of these Bible verses about redemption come from the Old Testament? I sandwiched these between two verses from the New Testament as a reminder this is God’s character and true intention towards us from the beginning. His love for you was and is and is to come. From the beginning, God called humanity good. When we separated ourselves from Perfect Goodness, God made a path of reclamation to every heart. God fought for you then and continues fighting for you now. You only need to be still.
